How does the Tailor Oil Cleanse work? The Oil Cleansing method dates back to ancient times, but Tailor Oil Cleanse is one of the first new generation natural skincare products to use natural oils and nourishing extracts to cleanse, hydrate and nourish the skin. But how does it actually work?
Many people are concerned that using an oil-based product will make their skin worse or appear oily. We have been conditioned by mainstream skincare companies to think that oil free products are the way to go, but this is simply not true. The skin naturally produces a protective barrier called the acid mantle, made up of oil and sweat. This acidic layer helps to protect the skin from external irritants including bacteria and pollution. By cleansing with harsh detergent based cleansers, you are stripping away this protective layer. Not only does this leave the skin open to infection from bacteria, but it can also confuse the skin. The skin becomes very dry with harsh cleansing, then responds by overcompensating and producing lots of sebum (oil) to rebuild the acid mantle and protect and hydrate the skin. This yo-yo effect can leave your skin oily one minute and dry the next.
The concept of oil cleansing follows the traditional medicine, or Ayurvedic concept of healing ‘like with like.’ The oil in the
cleanser is able to breakdown and dissolve the oil on the skin, with some light massaging it is also able to remove hardened oil, like blackheads. Once the oil is washed off and wiped away with a warm damp facecloth you will notice that your skin feels soft and hydrated, rather than squeaky clean like with some cleansers. This is because the oils in the cleanser have replaced the skins natural acid mantle, keeping the skin protected and hydrated by mimicking the skins natural sebum (oil).
Oil cleansing is not only great for oily or acne prone skin, but it also does wonders for dry, weathered, or eczema damaged skin. Tailor has used organic sunflower oil, and bioactive vitamin E oil. Vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant important for maintaining healthy skin. The antioxidant properties of vitamin E help to protect the skin from damage by environmental pollutants and the sun. The antioxidants work by neutralising free radicles – the molecules responsible for damaging precious skin tissue and causing wrinkles, fine lines, and an all-round lack of glow. The vitamin E in our diet from nuts, seeds and leafy greens takes about 7 days to reach the skin, so having topical vitamin E in your daily skincare routine is great way to support and protect the skin.
Coconut oil provides so many benefits to our body, both as a topical treatment and through our diet. Coconut oil contains a special type of fatty acid called lauric acid, and has been used in the Oil Cleanse for its antibacterial properties. When used as part of a cleanser it is able to eliminate the bacteria which causes acne, blackheads and other skin conditions. Removing the bacteria while still nourishing the skin is a unique property of the Tailor Oil Cleanse, and is something that very few other cleansers offer.
The two plant extracts used in Tailor Oil Cleanse are; NZ Kanuka essential oil and rosemary flower extract. NZ Kanuka essential oil has been used in Maori medicine for centuries due to its powerful antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It helps to remove bacteria that can cause acne and infections, and also reduces redness and inflammation. Rosemary flower extract provides antibacterial benefit and also contains vitamin B6, an important vitamin to help the skin retain moisture and prevent dryness. These extracts are especially helpful for calming wind burnt, dry or eczema affected skin.
Tailor Oil Cleanse is an all round skin superstar! It is full of nourishing ingredients that support the skins natural processes. It helps to balance oily skin, keep the skin free from acne causing bacteria, helps to prevent dryness, and provides the skin with the nutrients needed to protect against ageing.
*Please note that the Oil Cleanse cannot be relied on for sun protection. We still advise that you take care in the sun by covering up, staying in the shade or buy using an organic sunscreen with a SPF of at least 30.
