Welcome Mistyday, we talk Plant Potions, Pearl Powder and how she likes to start her day with a Cosmic Brew.
What is cosmic brew and why did you combine this unique cocktail of ingredients together?
Cosmic Brew is a blend of blue spirulina extract, freeze dried pineapple, coconut milk powder, ginger and the amazing tonic herb tulsi ( or Holy Basil) . The beautiful star of the blend is the blue spirulina extract, but on its own, although it has many benefits, it has a negligible flavour. I wanted to ensure that the blend tasted delicious and was nutritious so that is where the coconut milk and pineapple powder comes in – they contribute a beautiful tropical vibe and also numerous nutritional benefits. Coconut contains skin loving fats while pineapple provides the essential collagen building nutrient vitamin C alongside an enzyme called bromelain which supports healthy digestion and whole body vitality. As a herbalist, I wanted to also make sure that this blend, alongside having nutritional benefits also had more powerful herbal benefits. These come from the well known wonder spice, ginger – which not only supports digestion and dampens inflammation but is also expansive and warming and the antioxidant rich ayurvedic herb tulsi.
What’s the difference between blue spirulina and regular green spirulina?
Blue spirulina extract contains high levels of the antioxidant pigment, phycocyanin. This is present in regular spirulina but is less concentrated . Phycocyanin is a very bright blue pigment which is found rarely in nature – it is though, in the same family as anthocyanins which give blueberries, blackberries and other fruits a purple hue and their antioxidant power. Phycocyanin gives Cosmic Brew its bright blue colour and also is a powerful antioxidant which helps to support against the degenerative changes that happen, inside and out, as we age.
Tell us about tulsi? We love the tea to drink!
Me too! Tulsi which translates as” the incomparable one” is a sacred and holy Ayurveda herb, in fact it is considered by many to be the elixir of life! I love using tulsi as it has such a special affinity and action for the nervous system and emotions, creating awareness and balance while enhancing deep thinking and opening the heart- great for meditation. From a western perspective, it is thought of as an adaptogen which supports the body against the ill effects of stress and supports the adrenal glands to tackle any troubles that come your way!
Tell us the best way to use Cosmic Brew?
So pearl powder, it’s not a plant potion but it’s wonderful for the skin. What are it’s specific benefits?
