Your most-asked questions about our NEW Tailor Elevate, answered. With our latest innovation introducing a new skincare category to the beauty industry, then of course there’s lots to unpack about it. So, let’s dive into the top 10 things you need to know about Elevate.
Why it’s called Elevate, Skincare Boosting Mask
Tailor Elevate is a skincare boosting mask, formulated to get more out of the active ingredients in your skincare products. Essentially made to ELEVATE your skincare results (pun intended). Its name had to match its function just like the rest of our range.
Elevate, is a mask that you leave on the skin for 3-5 minutes and then remove. It is all you need in your routine to enhance the penetration of your existing skincare products and their moisturisation performance, hence its product sub name, skincare boosting mask.
What Elevate does, exactly.
Take your skincare results to new heights, Elevate:
- Allows deeper penetration: Formulated with Fruit acids, powerful AHAs derived from sugary fruits, which work on the surface of the skin to deeply exfoliate and brighten, to clear the way for the maximum benefits from your favourite serums and moisturisers.
- Calms and repairs skin barrier: Dermatologically tested for sensitive skin, marshmallow plant extract soothes redness, relieves inflammation, and helps to retain moisture
- Instant 72-hour hydration: Pentavitin, a naturally derived plant extract, mimics the sugars in the skin's outermost layer to provide instant hydration that lasts for 72 hours.
Where it fits into your routine
It's easy to use, you just apply a thin layer of Elevate to just-washed skin, let it sit for 3-5 minutes, and remove with a damp Towel. Then, you'd follow up with your favourite serums and moisturisers.
Why just-washed skin? Damp skin acts like a sponge, quickly absorbing whatever comes its way. (That’s damp, not wet).
You can use Elevate morning or night, at a time that best suits you (me, I put it on, vacuum the house and remove - in true Tailor multi-tasking fashion). To get the most out of your skincare routine, use this mask every 2-3 days.
The formula
Fragrance
Elevate has no added fragrance! It does have a slight neutral scent from the natural ingredients in its formulation - but it’s very faint, really. For our visual learners, here's it on a scale…
Feel
Let’s break it down! When you apply it feels thick, spongy and buttery. Then, while it sits on your skin it will absorb into the skin and slightly dry. Once removed your skin will feel soft, hydrated and dewy, with a slight flush.
Colour
Curious as to why Elevate is bright yellow? It’s actually from the ingredient Seabuck Thorn Oil, which is naturally derived from the sea buckthorn plant. We’ve added this ingredient into Elevate's formula because it helps to repair and regenerate your skin to promote a youthful complexion. It’s just an added bonus that this ingredient adds the most beautiful, bright and buttery yellow colour to our skincare boosting mask.
It’s suited to all skin types
If you use active ingredients in your skincare, then, Elevate is for you. It is a multi-targeting mask formulated to get more out of your existing skincare routine which is everyone’s skin type. I mean, you don't want to pay all this money for amazing skincare actives for them to do only half the job. Plus, it’s been sent for dermatesting and was awarded a rating of excellence for all skin types including sensitive skin.
Our primary AHA
We have included Fruit Acids (1%) and Finger Lime (1%), these are a natural blend of AHAs to exfoliate and brighten the skin. These also include your well-known Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Citric Acid, Malic Acid, and Tartaric Acid. But in order to get benefits from these acids you need to ensure you use a specific %.
The reason we add an additional 0.5% lactic acid is to buffer the product down to a pH of 4.4 as AHA’s are typically more effective at a lower pH and higher acidic level. For example, “AHA ingredients work in an acidic pH range... At higher pH levels they may lose effectiveness.” Lactic Acid alone would not be effective at 0.5% (recommended use is 2-10% when used as the primary AHA) but because Fruit acids are our primary AHA and it is already present in the Fruit Acids, it has a synergistic effect with the other ingredients.
It can be mixed & matched with Gold Dust
I mean we aren’t known for being able to ‘mix & match’ within our range for nothing. Did you know Elevate has Kakadu Plum, which is another natural form of vitamin C. Your skin also absorbs vitamin C and stores it for later use, so it can't be easily washed away. Plus, it depletes each day from UV exposure. So adding Gold Dust to Elevate just gives you an extra boost of vitamin C content.
For a bit of science talk here. Did you know, according to the Indian Dermatology Online Journal article called ‘Vitamin C in dermatology’, who mentioned “once applied, Vit. C cannot be fully washed or wiped off the skin.” The vitamin C content in Elevate's Kakadu Plum and addition of Gold Dust (when mixed in), even in a wash-off mask, will still remain on the skin, delivering all its skin-loving benefits. Cool right?
*It’s important to note, for sensitive skin, we always recommend patch testing before using Gold Dust. The most sensitive part of your skin is the upper arm, which is why it’s the best place to test.
Pro tip: You only need a scoop of Gold Dust when mixing it in with Elevate.
Elevate, Skincare Boosting Mask vs Polish, Exfoliating and Detoxifying Mask
First things first, think of Elevate as the complete opposite of Polish, but complimentary of one another. Elevate is a smooth, soft and buttery AHA exfoliating mask which provides instant hydration benefits to soothe your skin. It’s AHA (fruit acids) works on the surface of your skin to gently peel away your dead skin cells, to make way for new, more evenly pigmented skin cells. This is how an AHA stimulates skin cell turnover, which declines as you age, meaning your dead skin cells are shed off less, giving your skin a dull, uneven and a bit of a rough complexion. By peeling away these dead skin cells, you’re also enhancing the penetration of your existing skincare products and their moisturisation performance in your skin, leaving your skin smooth, radiant and plump. This means you’re getting more out of the active ingredients in your skincare.
Compared to Polish which is an exfoliating scrub, detoxifying clay mask and spot treatment. Polish contains another chemical exfoliator Salicylic Acid (BHA) and is gritty due to its mechanical exfoliator Pumice Powder. This mask works by taking a deep dive into your pores to absorb excess oils, clear congestion, and gently buff for a clear complexion.
Tailor tips:
- Apply Elevate as a mask in dry areas and Polish as a mask in oily/t-zone areas.
- When using both Elevate and Polish in your routine, for best results with these AHA and BHA masks, we’d recommend you do the following on alternating days. If you use Polish first as a scrub in your cleansing routine, and you can follow up with Elevate as a mask after.
