Lip care has evolved (and it needed to)
Lip care used to be simple. A balm, a swipe, a quick fix for dryness, and that was it. It did the job in the moment, then quietly disappeared as soon as it wore off.
But the way we treat skin has changed. Facial skincare has moved into a world of actives, barrier support, and long-term skin health. Lip care hasn’t always kept pace.
Most traditional lip balms still rely heavily on occlusives that sit on the surface of the lips to temporarily reduce moisture loss. They can feel comforted at first, but the effect is short-lived. They don’t actively improve lip condition over time, which is why dryness, rough texture, and that constant reapplication cycle tend to return.
And if you think about it, you’ve probably experienced it: it feels good when you put it on, but not long after, you’re reaching for it again.
Some of you might remember our Tailor Balm (yes, the one with the cute blue cardboard packaging). It focused exactly where it should at the time: moisturising, nourishing, and protecting dry lips. It did what a traditional balm was designed to do.
When we discontinued it, our Tailor community began begging for it to come back. But instead of simply bringing it back, we asked a bigger question: if we were formulating a lip product today, knowing what we now know about skin health, what would it look like?
The truth is, lip care has already started to evolve. A new generation of peptide lip treatments and active-led formulas are shifting the category forward. But many still stop at visible plumping or instant cosmetic payoff.
We wanted to go further.
Modern lip care is becoming more skincare-led, treatment-focused, and built with active ingredients that work beyond surface comfort. It’s designed to hydrate more intelligently, support lip barrier function, and visibly improve texture over time. It also helps soften the appearance of fine lines and creasing, improve definition and volume, and enhance how lips hold colour for better lipstick and liner performance.
But not all “modern” lip treatments are created equal.

So what makes Glossed different?
We approached it the same way we approach all Tailor formulations: by identifying what lips are missing when relying on a standard lip balm, and rebuilding support from the inside out, starting with the lip skin barrier.
Because when the barrier is compromised, everything follows: moisture escapes more easily, texture becomes uneven, and over time lips can appear drier, finer-lined, and less defined.
As lips age, natural collagen and hydration levels decline. The lip border can soften, vertical lines become more visible, and lips often lose some of their smoothness and volume. Yet much of today’s lip care, including many peptide lip treatments, is still positioned around instant plumping and cosmetic shine, largely designed with younger, fuller lips in mind.
Glossed was designed with a broader lens. A multi-benefit peptide lip treatment that hydrates, smooths, and visibly enhances lip fullness, while supporting long-term lip barrier health. Designed to treat lips the way we now treat skin: with actives, not just occlusion.
Inside a new standard of lip care
At the core of Glossed is a plant-based peptide complex (yes, peptides really are everywhere right now), designed to support the skin’s natural functions, including hyaluronic acid production. Over time, this helps improve hydration levels and contributes to lips that look smoother, plumper, and more resilient.
We pair this with sodium hyaluronate, a form of hyaluronic acid known for its ability to attract and hold water within the skin. It delivers immediate hydration while helping to visibly smooth and soften the lip surface.
To strengthen the lip barrier itself, we include ceramide NP, a skin-identical lipid that helps reduce moisture loss and supports long-term barrier integrity and softness.
And for comfort and nourishment, shea butter provides rich emollient care, helping to seal in moisture and leave lips feeling supple and protected.
We wanted Glossed to feel as good as it performs. The subtle mint infusion creates a clean, refreshing application experience, with a gentle cooling sensation that enhances that naturally plumped-looking effect. It’s fresh, uplifting, and intentionally understated. Never overpowering or artificial.
Each ingredient plays a distinct role, but together they create a 98% naturally derived formula that works across multiple layers of lip health: hydration, barrier support, and visible smoothing.
The result is not just a conditioned feel upon application, but a healthier-looking lip over time, visibly improved both on bare lips, where texture and fine lines are more exposed, and under lip liner and makeup, where smoothness and hydration directly influence how evenly colour applies, wears, and holds throughout the day.
At $29.50, Glossed is priced to make advanced lip care more accessible. While many peptide lip treatments sit closer to $46, we’ve focused on delivering a high-performance, barrier-first formula without the premium mark-up that often comes with the category.
Multi-use by design
Glossed isn’t limited to one function in your routine; it's an anytime lip treatment. It adapts to you (tailored to you, remember) and how you choose to use it:
Lip balm: instant hydration and glossy lips
Lip treatment: targeted improvement in texture and fullness over time
Lip mask: overnight nourishment and repair
Tailor Tip: Apply a generous layer before you start applying your makeup, then gently remove any excess and follow with your favourite lip combo. Helps create a smooth, hydrated base for effortless liner and lipstick application.
And the cherry on top? A soft, high-shine finish - with absolutely no greasiness, stickiness, or residue.
Thoughtfully housed.
Glossed sits within our existing Tailor packaging approach, using the same style of tube as Awaken - slightly smaller in scale with a subtly refined applicator tip to suit the formula’s use. It contains 40% PCR (post-consumer recycled) plastic, made from recycled milk bottles. While this is slightly lower than the 50% used across Gel Cleanse, Polish, and Elevate, it was a deliberate decision to ensure optimal squeezability, durability, and ease of use in a more petite format. The tube remains curbside recyclable.
You'll notice a fresh evolution in Glossed's design, from the artwork through to its new pearl-finish aquamarine tube. Because we wanted Glossed to not be hidden away in a bathroom cabinet. It's made to live wherever you do - tucked into your handbag, sitting on your desk, or within arm's reach throughout the day. Functional? Absolutely. But if it happens to spark a little envy when someone sees it, we're not mad about that either.
The soft aquamarine hue was chosen intentionally to reflect Glossed's subtle plumping mint scent, creating a visual connection to the product experience itself. Combined with the luminous pearl finish, the result is fresh, playful, and undeniably cute. The pearl finish reflects the high-shine, glossy finish of our peptide lip treatment.
To match the tube, the carton is also finished with a pearl coating. This is the most environmentally considered option available to achieve this level of visual finish. While the specialised coating means it isn't compostable or biodegradable like our standard cartons, it remains fully curbside recyclable - which aligns with how the vast majority of packaging is actually disposed of. The result is a beautiful premium finish without compromising on everyday recyclability. It is also FSC-certified, ensuring responsibly sourced paper from well-managed forests, and made in New Zealand. You can read more on this certification here.

Glossed started, like all Tailor products, with a gap we couldn’t ignore. Most lip balms out there aren’t actually treating lips like skin - so we changed that.
