Tailored [skin-loving] Ingredients

Aqua (water)

What makes up the bulk of this formulation. Water is used as the base of many skincare products including Moisture, as a solvent, because it is what the other ingredients in the formulation dissolve into, to create the formula (aka the end result).

Milk thistle ester

[say it like] milk thi•sl eh•stir

Guess what, Milk Thistle Ester is the natural alternative to silicone (just saying). This locks in all the moisture and protects your skin from environmental stressors and pollution. Not only does it do this, but it also has antioxidant and calming effects, which helps protect your skin from UV light exposure.

Polysaccharides

[say it like] pol•ee•sack•ah•rides

Here, we have plant polysaccharides ​​(sugar complexes) which hydrate your skin without clogging your pores. And with long term use, they have been scientifically proven to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles (AKA backed by science). These include anhydroxylitol, cyamopsis tetragonoloba, sclerotium gum, xanthan gum, xylitol, xylitylglucoside.

Glycerin

[say it like] gli•suh•ruhn

I'm not sure if you know this, but Glycerin is sourced from organic coconut oil (yes, organic). It's a humectant that prevents water loss in your skin to keep it hydrated and moisturised for longer (AKA dream skin).

Cocoa butter

[say it like] kow•kow•butt•eeer

Our unrefined organic ingredient (mmmm, yes) and a natural fat that protects your skin to promote healing while forming a barrier to stop water loss and retain moisture. Cocoa butter is a 4 on the comedogenicity (likelihood of clogging pores) scale but used at <0.5% in our formulation.

Vitamin E

[say it like] vai•tah•muhn e

A lover of vitamins and for good reason. Vitamin E is a fatty acid and an antioxidant so it double downs on being super nourishing for your skin. It protects against free radical damage, fights inflammation and boosts skin healing. And this natural vitamin E is derived from soybean oil through a non-chemical process before being blended with sunflower seed oil (oh, technology). The manufacturer for this material is a member of the round table on responsible soy (RTRS), and are “fully committed to the principles of environmental responsibility and good agricultural practices". It has the Tailor tick.

Plant oils

Feed your skin with an abundance of plant oils to deeply nourish your skin and lock in moisture to promote a healthy complexion. These plant oils include grapeseed seed oil, hazelnut seed oil, jojoba oil, rosehip seed oil and sunflower seed oil.

Natural fragrance

[say it like] fray•gruhns

Infused with Tailor's iconic scent with notes of vanilla, green and floral. Our fragrance is a bespoke blend of extracts of essential oil chosen for their relaxing and soothing properties. All the ingredients in our fragrance are derived from natural sources, as essential oils can be quite active on the skin and it's important to us we made sure our fragrance is gentle.

Benzyl alcohol

[say it like] ben•zile al•kuh•hol

We're about to be very transparent with you here. This is our chosen preservative system in our skincare range. Benzyl alcohol is a powerful broad-spectrum anti-bacterial preservative used to stabilise skincare. It is multi-purpose (think Tailor) as it also helps dissolve other ingredients and decreases the viscosity (thickness) of formulas so they flow more easily - you know that squeeze of free-flow gel.

Dehydroacetic acid

[say it like] dee•high•jrow•seat•ick acid

One of our preservatives in Renew with a potent anti-fungal to keep this cleanser safe to use for longer - because we all love a long shelf life. When mixed (& matched) with benzyl alcohol they create a broad-spectrum preservative against yeasts, moulds and funguses. Take note, our preservative system is synthetically derived and is ECOCERT certified to be used in natural skincare.

Cetearyl olivate

[say it like] seat•air•role oli•vate

This is one of our emulsifiers, which prevents oil and water from separating in Moisture. It is super gentle on your skin and will deeply soften and smoothen skin. It also helps to stabilise oil and water emulsions. It opens the pathway for other active ingredients to absorb into your skin, without compromising your skin barrier.

Sorbitan palmitate

[say it like] saw•bit•in•palm•itate

This is one of our emulsifiers, which prevents oil and water from separating in Moisture. It will add rigidness to this formula. It also helps to stabilise oil and water emulsions. It opens the pathway for other active ingredients to absorb into your skin, without compromising your skin barrier.

Cetyl palmitate

[say it like] set•illl•palm•itate

This is one of our emollients, derived from naturally occurring fatty acids. This is an oil-based formula which forms a protective film over the skin to hold moisture in the skin. Also a thickener, this emollient will smoothen and condition your skin. FYI, great for dry skin.

Potassium sorbate

[say it like] pow•tass•ee•uhm saw•bate

One of our preservatives in Moisture, this is the potassium salt of sorbic acid. This is going to help protect this to ensure it's safe and free from bacteria, especially in water-based formulas. Without them, your product would be required to be kept in the fridge, not lasting longer than a couple of weeks.
